Where Rome starts? From the Palatine Hill, of course! Archeological excavations show that this hill was inhabited since tenth century BCE; moreover, the legends say that Romulus and Remus were found and raised here by their famous she-wolf-mother. In the second half of the eighth century BCE Rome became a city first exactly in this hill. And because it always was the heart of Rome, emperors and other wealthy and famous people considered it as honor to build here their palaces and homes. Palatine Hill is surrounded by such attractions as Circus Maximus, the Roman Forum and Colosseum itself.
Nowadays this fantastic site is turned to the open-air museum. Here you can observe remains of the palaces of Augustus, Tiberius, and Domitian, and of temples built by some of them.
